Our Story

With none of his material currently on CD, Charles Brimmer is just a name on a handful of 45s and a few hard-to-find albums. However, during the 1970s, Brimmer was one of New Orleans’ top-selling recording artists, a solid exponent of Deep Southern Soul. He was born in New Orleans, Louisiana in 1948; raised and grew up in the lower Ninth Ward. Gospel Music singing was his first calling. "Quoted by Jeff Hannusch",Off Beat Magazine writer.

However, in 1965, I was exposed to secular music and drawn to it. I eventually recorded my first secular song. When the church heard my songs on the airways, I was removed from the church choir stand. At that time, they thought that my gift had gone astray. Because of my removal, I was very heart broken, but I started focusing more on pursuing my entertaining and recording career from 1965 to 1977. I experience some unfavorable record deals during that time. But I learned my musical craft by working with some of New Orleans’ best musicians and musical arrangers at the time, Wardell Quezerque, music producer and songwriter, Dave Bartholomew, and New Orleans’ self-taught iconic recording engineer, Cosimo Matassa. He recorded and engineered every major and minor hit record that came out of New Orleans from the 40s through the 70s. He always told me to pay close attention to how everything is being done in the studio. 

I later moved to Los Angeles in August of 1976 because that is where the entertainment business was booming. I wanted to find out if I was as good as I thought, but I had mixed experiences in California. Gigs were especially hard to find, because Los Angeles did not have as many night club venues as New Orleans. It was hard to get a foot in the door. I worked by day as an accountant for ten years providing for my family. “I was a small fish in a big ocean,” So, I decided to return home to New Orleans in 1986. I walked away from the music scene business a total of over fifty years ago and have been operating my own business, an entrepreneur, over the last forty years.

In the latter part of last year, I was introduced to this form of music creation tool my brother Ivory. He talk to me for quite a while about it, and but I was busy doing all of my usual priority things for others. So, the next day I had some time to research what he was actually talking about. This is what happened to me on that day. Everything I had ever dreamed of in the music business years ago had just been placed before me. The Lord spoke to me, saying that you have spent many years doing honorable deeds for others. Now it’s time for you to do my work not as a preacher in the pulpit, but as an anointed voice in songs. A long time ago I gave you a voice that was bold and true. You may not have the voice you use to have, but I want you to use this creative voice that I have given this knowledge to man. Now, I have consecrated as mine, you will use this creative voice to sing and spread my word to the masses and glorify my name through these songs. “Deuteronomy 18:22, 2 Peter 1:20-21”

Truthfully, I had no idea that this would be happening at this point and time in my life. When I first started doing these songs and putting them in song structure and when they came out. I fell to my knees and started crying like a baby and I started thanking my heavenly father saying Thank You, Jesus Thank You,Jesus over and over. A friend of mine for over 40 years, who is my brother in Christ, and my bible consultant, Allen J. Powell, Sr., “AJ” heard the songs. He was quite aware that I was not a bible reading person. He told me for you to be able to write these songs, you have been touched. 

So, as of right now, I have reactivated my record company BRIMCO RECORDS LLC. As I release these creative songs to you via my website, I would appreciate you taking time out of your busy schedule to listen to the messages in these all-original songs. I feel confident that these songs will touch your emotions, heart and spirit inspired by my Lord and Savior. Some of these songs will include my own spiritual journey through my life.
